Greg Yamamoto | SLTwelve outstanding senior student-athletes were inducted into the Hawaii High School Athletic Association Hall of Honor at an Awards Dinner Sunday Evening at the Dole Cannery Pomaikai Ballroom.
The inductees were chosen by a 16-person selection committee of current and former sports reporters, athletic directors and coaches. Each of the inductees will receive a $2,000 scholarship courtesy of Enterprise Rent-A-Car.
The Keynote speaker for the evening was Francesca Weems, a 2005 inductee. Weems graduated from Kealakehe and was a member of the Waveriders' track and field, cross country and soccer teams before attending the University of California, Berkeley. She currently is a sports reporter/anchor for Hawaii News Now.
The HHSAA Hall of Honor, formerly known as the Nissan Hall of Honor, has been recognizing the top 12 senior student-athletes in Hawai'i each year since 1983, making this year's inductees its 33rd class.
The 2015 Class of Inductees into the Enterprise Rent-A-Car/HHSAA Hall of Honor were:
Kamuela Borden, Iolani School: All-State offensive lineman in football; two-time state champion shot put, state discus champion; basketball.
Gabrielle Ewing, Hawaii Preparatory Academy: Two-time all-state soccer, three times selected to state tournament all-tourney team; three-time all-Big Island Interscholastic Federation selection in volleyball.
Tiyana Hallums, Kamehameha-Kapalama: All-State in volleyball; high, long and triple jumper in track.
Lena Hayakawa, Mid-Pacific Institute: State champion swimmer in various events all four years of her career, helping her team to two team state championships.
Sabrina Hollins, Waipahu: Two-time state judo champion; state shot put champion; Oahu Interscholastic Association champion in wrestling, state runner-up.
BJ Hosaka, Hawaii Baptist Academy: ScoringLive All-Hawaii Division II first team, two-time Interscholastic League of Honolulu Division II Player of the Year; All-State volleyball selection.
Ian Kahaloa, Campbell: Two-time ScoringLive All-Hawaii first-team selection, SL Player of the Year, state tournament Most Outstanding Player.
Kanoa Kaleoaloha, Kamehameha-Kapalama: State champion in various events, including 10 gold medals, from freshman to senior years, including state meet records in the 50- and 100-yard freestyle, as well as in the 200- and 400-yard freestyle relays.
Kawika Lam, Punahou School: Three consecutive state tennis singles championships, one doubles state championship.
Sarah Lau, Kamehameha-Kapalama: All-State selection in volleyball; All-State selection in soccer; ILH champion in track (4x100 relay).
Micah Maa, Punahou School: Four-time All-State selection in volleyball; ILH honors in basketball and football.
Kanawai Noa, Punahou School: Two-time SL All-Hawaii wide receiver and All-State selection.
