No. 3 Roosevelt cruises past Baldwin, 56-33

Evan Asato | SLKeala Quinlan scored 15 points and grabbed 16 rebounds to pace Roosevelt to a 56-33 win over Baldwin in a quarterfinal game of the New City Nissan/Hawaii High School Athletic Association Division I Girls Basketball State Championships at McKinley's Student Council Gymnasium Wednesday afternoon.
The fourth-seeded Rough Riders (15-0) also got 14 points from Ashley Kiko to move into Thursday's semifinal round, where they will play top-seeded and top-ranked Konawaena at 7 p.m. at McKinley.
Roosevelt was in command from the get-go, building a 13-0 lead early on, and were never threatened by the Maui Interscholastic League runner-up Bears (9-7).
The Rough Riders held a 15-4 advantage after the first quarter, but failed to score for nearly six minutes to start the second. Baldwin was unable to take advantage, however, scoring just three points during Roosevelt's scoreless stretch.
Roosevelt extended its lead to 23-9 by halftime and 46-23 after three quarters.
The Rough Riders shot over 45 percent (10 of 29) from the field and out rebounded the Bears, 44 to 27.
Baldwin went 0 for 10 on 3-pointers and shot 30 percent (15 of 50) from the field.
Each team committed 17 turnovers. They combined to shoot just 10 of 29 from the free-throw line.
Kiana Lynn Kalehuawehe scored 13 points to lead the unseeded Bears, who reached the quarterfinals after upending Leilehua 44-30 in Tuesday's opening round. They will now play Punahou in a 5 p.m. consolation game at Moanalua Thursday.
