Kaimuki holds off Castle, 45-43, to claim OIA D2 title

Victoria Kintz poured in 20 points to help Kaimuki claim its second OIA Division II title Thursday night with a 45-43 win over Castle, at McKinley's Student Council Gymnasium.

Kaimuki held off a wild rally from Castle, who trailed by as many as 16 points but rallied to tie the score up at 42 with under a minute to play.

"It's a great feeling and I can't believe we made it," said the sophomore Kintz. "I'm not going to lie I was a little scared when Castle made that run, but I love these girls and know they have my back no matter."

Kintz finished with 20 points, four rebounds and five assits. Sophomore guard Ashlynn Henderson added nine points and 10 rebounds.

Castle was led offensively by guard Darrien Dacosin who had 15 points, four rebounds, and four steals. Forward Asia Almeda chipped in nine points and a game high 13 rebounds.

"It's great," said Kaimuki head coach Mona Faasoa. "I'm so proud of these girls they earned it."

Castle will join Kaimuki in next week's Division II state tournament as the two representatives from the OIA. The tournament gets underway Tuesday.
