Kahuku sweeps Mililani to force rematch for Red title

Sinamoni Tonga had 10 kills, one block and one ace, Adora Anae added eight kills and one block and Pati Anae contributed six kills and two blocks last night as Kahuku swept past Mililani, 25-23, 25-17, 25-13, to force a winner-take-all rematch tomorrow for the O'ahu Interscholastic Association girls volleyball championship.

Tomorrow's title match will start around 5 p.m. at McKinley, following the 3 p.m. White Conference championship final between Leilehua and Roosevelt.

It will be Kahuku's seventh match in 12 days -- all in Honolulu -- but the Red Raiders showed little sign of fatigue last night in improving to 15-3 in league play. It was the first OIA loss for Mililani (13-1).

The first set was a tight one with neither team leading by more than three points, and it was tied at 22-22 before Kahuku went ahead on a double-block by Pati Anae and Tatiana Brown. An error by the Trojans made it 24-22, and after a kill by Jordyn Keamo closed it to 24-23, Pati Anae ended it with a kill through the block.�

Game 2 was tied at 13-13 before Brown had two kills to spark a 7-1 run that put the Red Raiders ahead, 20-14, and Mililani could not get closer than five points the rest of the way.

Adora Anae had two kills and Tonga was in on two blocks as Kahuku went on a 6-1 run to break a 7-7 tie in the third set. The margin did not get closer than four points thereafter as the Red Raiders continued to pound away.

Brown added four kills and two blocks and Tyra Williams contributed two kills, four blocks and an ace for Kahuku. Keamo led the Trojans with 13 kills, one block and one ace.
