Led behind a hard-nosed running game the Red Raiders were able to defeat Waimea, 24-6 in a Kauai Interscholastic Federation league game at Vidinha Stadium Saturday afternoon. With the win Kauai improved to 3-4 and 3-2 in league play.

For the second straight year, Waimea (0-6) failed to pick up a win during league play. The Menehunes did have a win in the preseason against Big Island Interscholastic Federation opponent Hawaii Prep.

It was the only prep football game played that day as various leagues around the state pushed up all games for Friday, or had postponed it for the following week.

Kauai running backs Bulla Rapacon and Jhustin Balisican were instrumental in the victory, combining for 178 yards and three touchdowns.

Although he threw an interception in the contest, Kauai quarterback Aaron Renaud did throw for a season-high 181 yards.

Patrick Keamoai-Strickland's 10-yard touchdown pass to Berny Ned in the fourth quarter was Waimea's lone score of the game.
