Matt Apana has stepped down as Roosevelt High School baseball coach to become an assistant on new Punahou coach Kenny Harrison's staff.
Apana and Harrison were teammates and standouts at the University of Hawai'i in the early 1990s.
"It's a good opportunity, Kenny and I are alike in a lot of ways and I think we complement each other well," said Apana, who informed his Roosevelt players about the move today. "I'm happy, but sad, too ... kind of torn."
Apana, a Roosevelt graduate, took over the Rough Riders program in 2010 and was named O'ahu Interscholastic Association Red Conference Eastern Division Coach of the Year after his first season after leading them to a 7-1 start and runner-up finish in the division.
Harrison was named head coach at Punahou on Friday, replacing longtime coach Eric Kadooka.
