PEARL CITY — Luke Wyman and Ryan Nakano each scored a goal and Pearl City defeated Castle, 2-1, in an Oahu Interscholastic Association Red (Division I) Conference Tournament first-round game at Bino Nieves Stadium Tuesday night.

With the win, the Chargers — the Western Division's No. 3 seed — improved to 9-2 and advanced into Wednesday's quarterfinal round. They will play Eastern Division champion Kaiser at Mililani's John Kauinana Stadium with a spot in the state tournament on the line. The Knights' season comes to an end at 6-5.

Wyman, a freshman, scored his third goal of the season about midway through the first half and Nakano, a senior, netted his second goal of the year about 25 minutes into the second half.

DJ Chinen scored Castle's only goal in the closing minutes of the game. It was his third goal of the season.

It was the sixth consecutive win for Pearl City. The Chargers and Cougars meet at 5 p.m. Wednesday.

The top six teams from the OIA qualify for the Outrigger Hotels & Resorts Division I Boys Soccer State Championships, Feb. 12 to 15 at the Waipio Peninsula Soccer Complex.
