Has girls' soccer power shifted to the 'Ewa plain?

Has the power in girls' soccer in the O'ahu Interscholastic Association West moved to the 'Ewa plain?

For the first time in 31 of the past 33 years, the West Division champion is not Mililani or Pearl City.

Campbell's 3-0 win against Waipahu and Kapolei's 2-0 win against 'Aiea have given the two 'Ewa plain schools a share of the Red West championship, a first for both teams. By virtue of their win against the Hurricanes during the regular season, the Sabers have earned the top seed for the Red tournament. Campbell and Kapolei are both 9-1. The Sabers' sole loss was to Mililani.

Girls' soccer in the West has been dominated by Mililani and Pearl City the past 32 years. The Trojans have won 21 West titles, including the previous five in a row. Pearl City has won 12 division crowns. The two have shared titles twice. Pearl City also shared one with Moanalua.

'Aiea in 2004 and Moanalua in 1995 are the only other schools to win or share West titles.

Campbell shared or won White West Division crowns in 2007 and 2008. But as members of the Red or pre-Red/White divisions, the Sabers never finished better than fourth (2011).

Kapolei has been competitive since it started in 2003, but never won a crown. The Hurricanes placed no lower than third since 2006 and placed second from 2010 to 2012.
