Kamehameha advances at Durango


Kamehameha finished a perfect 3-0 in pool play at the Durango Fall Classic at Green Valley High School in Henderson, Nevada, advancing to tomorrow's championship bracket.

The Warriors defeated Riverside of Port Coquitlam, British Columbia in straight sets, 25-17, 25-9, in their pool play opener, as Pomai Recca had 5 kills and 1 ace and Damianna Robins-Hardy contributed 4 kills and 2 aces to lead the way.

In their second match against Harvard-Westlake of North Hollywood, California, the Warriors won the first set 25-20, dropped the second 18-25, and then claimed set three 25-14 for a 2-1 victory. Damianna Robins-Hardy had 5 kills and 2 aces, and Brittany Kalepa added 10 more kills to pace the Warriors, who also got 5 kills and 3 aces from Haley Pa'akula.

In the final match of pool play, the Warriors dispatched El Dorado (Placentia, California) in a sweep, 25-15, 25-22. Misty Ma'a led the Kamehameha attack with 6 kills, and Damianna Robins-Hardy and Brittany Kalepa each adding 4 more.

The tournament resumes tomorrow, with Kamehameha playing matches at Durango High School at 9:45 a.m. PDT.
