Mid-Pacific Institute senior Josh Terao, who has six state championships between wrestling and judo, has given a verbal commitment to wrestle at American University (Washington, D.C.) in 2014.

Terao, whose older brother David also wrestles at American, announced his decision nearly a week ago following a standout performance at the ASICS/Vaughan Junior & Cadet National Championships in Fargo, N.D. last month.

Terao competed at 120 pounds and finished first in the Greco-Roman competition and seventh in Freestyle. Following the tournament, numerous scholarship offers started rolling in, but American was always at the top of Terao’s list of college choices.

"American was an easy choice because of my brother being there," said Terao to Willie Saylor of FloWrestling.com. "I knew all the coaches and befriended the whole team."

In March of this year, Terao won his third straight individual high school wrestling state title at 130 pounds. He previously won championships at 108 pounds as a freshman and 125 as a sophomore. Whatsmore, Terao made it three straight state crowns in judo last May with his win at 132 pounds.

He will be reunited with older brother, David, who went 28-14 last year and qualified for the NCAA championships.
