OIA girls' basketball tournaments open this week


The O'ahu Interscholastic Association girls' basketball tournaments open Tuesday at various sites.

In the 12-team Red tournament, West fourth seed Kapolei will host East fifth seed Kaimuki; West sixth seed Radford will travel to East third seed Kahuku; East sixth seed Kalani will visit West third seed Wai'anae; and East fourth seed Moanalua will host West fifth seed Nanakuli. Losers of this round are eliminated from the tournament

All first-round games at 6 p.m.

The top two sees from each division drew first-round byes and will host quarterfinals on Wednesday.

East champion Roosevelt will play the winner of Kapolei-Kaimuki; West runner-up Leilehua will take on the winner of Kahuku-Radford; West champion Mililani will meet the winner of Moanalua-Nanakuli; and East runner-up Kaiser will play the winner of Waianae-Kalani. All games at 6 p.m.

Wednesday's winners advance to Saturday's semifinals at Waipahu. The championship is Jan. 31 at Waipahu.

The top six teams from the tournament will earn Division I state tournament berths.

The six-team White tournament starts Wednesday with Kalaheo visiting Waipahu and Waialua traveling to Kailua. Both games start at 6 p.m.

The winners advance to Friday's semifinals. East top seed McKinley will host the winner of Waipahu-Kalaheo and West top seed 'Aiea will host the winner of Kailua-Waialua. Both games are at 6 p.m.

The winners advance to the championship at Waipahu on Jan. 31.

The top three teams advance to the Division II state tournament.
