St. Anthony grad Victorino to play in World Baseball Classic

St. Anthony School graduate Shane Victorino will be playing for United States team in the coming World Baseball Classic.

The WBC website lists the 1999 St. Anthony graduate on the U.S. roster.

This will be Victorino's second WBC appearance. He is among four returning players from the 2009 team that lost in the semifinals to Japan, according to the WBC website.

Victorino, who was traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers from the Philadelphia Phillies last season, signed as a free agent with the Boston Red Sox. He was drafted by the Dodgers out of St. Anthony in the sixth round of the 1999 draft. He also was offered a football scholarship by then-UH football coach June Jones.
