Offensive Player of the Year: John-Keawe Sagapolutele, Punahou, QB, Sr.

In his final go-around, Sagapolutele put up a season to remember. The 6-foot-2, 210-pound senior passed for 2,384 yards and 25 touchdowns while leading Punahou to the Interscholastic League of Honolulu title and its first appearance in a state championship game since 2014. He completed 67.3 percent of his passes and was intercepted just seven times on the year. Sagapolutele logged a season-best 414 yards through the air in an early-October win over Saint Louis, a week after he completed 14 of 16 passes with four touchdowns and no interceptions in a victory over Kamehameha. The Buffanblu offense averaged 39.2 points and 404.5 yards per game, including 280.4 passing. Sagapolutele, who was voted by league coaches as ILH Offensive Player of the Year, will play for the University of Hawaii next fall.

Defensive Player of the Year: Liona Lefau, Kahuku, LB, Sr.

After a junior season that saw Lefau capture top accolades while leading a Big Red defense that fueled Kahuku's run to a state title, he followed it up with another stellar campaign last fall. Not only did the Red Raiders successfully defend both their league and state crowns, Lefau once again stood out amongst a talent-rich defensive unit to earn a back-to-back nod as the state's top defender. The 6-foot-1, 210-pound linebacker was the leader of a defense that allowed only 10 points and 202.1 yards per game. Kahuku posted four shutouts on the year, including a 20-0 blanking of Punahou in the state title game, when Lefau registered six tackles, a forced fumble and a pass break-up. Lefau, who graduated from high school early and is already enrolled at the University of Texas, is the first player to earn back-to-back All-Hawaii Player of the Year distinction since Lahainaluna's Josh Tihada was tabbed Offensive Player of the Year in Division II for both the 2018 and 2019 seasons.

Coach of the Year: Sterling Carvalho, Kahuku

The Red Raiders are no strangers to success over the years, but 2022 was a challenge unlike any other in recent memory. Not only did Kahuku play a total of 14 games last fall, it faced off against two of the nation's very best in St. John Bosco, which finished the year ranked No. 1 nationally after it captured the California Interscholastic Federation's Open Division state championship, and St. Frances (Baltimore), which was No. 8 in the final MaxPreps national rankings. Kahuku, which finished 25th in the same rankings, played most of the year without star wide receiver/returner Kainoa Carvalho while he mended from a high ankle sprain. The Red Raiders claimed their 29th OIA championship and 10th state title, their third and second under Sterling Carvalho, respectively.
