Offensive Player of the Year: Nainoa Simmons, Kapaa, RB, Sr.
The 6-foot, 185-pound Simmons was a workhorse for the Warriors' vaunted rushing attack. He ran for 1,558 yards and 16 touchdowns on 239 carries this year. Simmons averaged 6.5 yards per rush and 141.6 yards per game and eclipsed the 200-yard mark three times, including a 33-carry, 261-yard, three-TD effort in a win over Damien in the state semifinals. As a team, Kapaa averaged 37.4 points per game and more than 353 total yards per game, including 237 rushing per contest.
Defensive Player of the Year: Nash Burkart, Kapaa, DB, Sr.
The 6-foot-1, 165-pound Burkart stood out over his three years as a starting cornerback for the Warriors, but further improved his stock this year. In a win over Damien in the state semifinals, Burkart tallied 7 ½ tackles, forced a fumble just yards shy of the goal line to save a touchdown and also contributed an 82-yard kickoff return for TD. Burkart, who helped the Warriors limit opposing offenses to just 13.4 points per game this year, has signed with Sacramento State.
Coach of the Year: Mike Tresler, Kapaa
The Warriors tested their mettle with matchups against OIA Open Division teams Farrington and Kapolei to open the year. While Kapaa lost both games, the non-league contests provided a step up in competition that proved necessary after it ran the table in the KIF and outscored its league opponents, 280 to 25. Tresler's squad put on an offensive assault in a 55-33 state semifinal win over Damien, before it clamped down defensively to edge Konawaena, 10-7, in the title game a week later.
