FINAL  1   2   3   4   5
IOL (16-4) 25 25 0 - - 2
PUN (10-7) 23 23 0 - - 0
Kill: E. Oglivie (IOL) 12 kills
Blk: S. Zeng (PUN) 1 blk

Two sisters had breakout performances to help Iolani earn its first win of the season.

Freshman Elena Oglivie recorded a double-double of 12 kills and 11 digs and senior setter Ana Oglivie had a season-high 23 assists to help Raiders get by the Buffanblu in straight sets, 25-23, 25-23, at Hawaii Baptist's Dan Liu Gymnasium Tuesday night.

Iolani coach Kainoa Obrey said that one of the greatest traits of the younger Oglivie sister is her ability to stay steady.

"She's just a freshman, but she plays beyond her years," Obrey said of Elena Oglivie. "She's just one of those steady kids for us in her position. It's a lot to ask for a freshman, but she's doing well. She keeps the ball in play and keeps us in points and provides scoring too."

For the older Oglivie sister, it was her second game since taking over the setting duties for the Raiders (1-1). Ana Oglivie was the team's libero a season ago.

"She did a good job of disturbing the ball," said Obrey. "We go to our left side hitters a lot, that's just natural with the game, but she was able to get our back side and our middles the balls. She did a better job of that and her location was better overall."

Saige Kaahaaina-Torres and middle Halia Hogan were also key weapons for the Raiders, finishing with five kills each. Kristen McDaniel and Sasha Petticord added two kills each as well. Sophomore defensive specialist Naya Dong and senior libero Sammie Worley combined for 12 digs to lead the back row.

Elena Oglivie said that seeing everyone else get involved motivated her to have a good game.

"Everyone else was contributing and I just wanted to contribute to that too so I just gave it my all," she said.

She also couldn't hold back her excitement of playing with her older sister.

"It helps so much. We have a connection and she just knows me so much and we're so close. We have a bond and it's just so fun to play with her. I'm really excited and I'm looking forward to the rest of the season."

For Punahou (2-1), it was a night of missed opportunities. The Buffanblu were in it both games, but could not take advantage of the Raiders' miscues. Iolani committed 24 total errors to Punahou's 16.

"(Iolani) didn't play a perfect match, but they definitely played better team volleyball than us," said Punahou coach Tanya Fuamatu-Anderson. "We didn't capitalize on their errors. They had a couple of miseries that we could have used to turn around in our favor, but we just didn't. We also committed way too many errors on our part."

Fuamatu-Anderson added that the Raiders gave her team a good test early on the season.

"Iolani is definitely a strong team with a strong volleyball team, so it was a test for us to figure out what our strengths and our weaknesses are with different people out there."

Junior Amalia Hilliard was the Buffanblu's most consistent hitter with eight kills. Sophomore Teana Adams-Kaonohi handled most of the setting duties and finished with 11 assists while senior libero Averi Salvador finished with a match-high 13 digs.
