For the third game in a row, Saint Louis got stellar pitching in the Wally Yonamine Foundation Division I state baseball tournament.

Senior left-hander Peyton Oshiro pitched two-hit ball over six innings and Pono Anderson added a scoreless seventh and the No. 3 Crusaders rallied by No. 1 and second-seeded Campbell, 3-1, Thursday night in the semifinals at Les Murakami Stadium.

The Crusaders (17-6) will meet No. 10 Mililani (12-6) for the 56th championship at 7 p.m.

Saint Louis is making its first title appearance since 2008, when it lost to Punahou, 4-0; the Crusaders are looking for their first title in 40 years, when they beat 'Aiea, 4-2, in the 1974 championship, when regulation games were still nine innings.

Mililani (12-6) makes it to the title game for the second year in a row; it lost to Mid-Pacific Institute, 3-1, last year.

Oshiro's outing comes after Anderson's 13-0 win against Roosevelt in which he threw six innings and Jordan Yamamoto's epic start against Waiakea's Kodi Medeiros in a 2-0 complete-game win in Wednesday's quarterfinals. That leaves a big question for the title game starter.

"As far as who we got left, we've got Dawson Yamaguchi, a freshman," Saint Louis coach George Gusman said. "We might look at Pono (Anderson) again. We got Jacob Morey, Jacob White."

As for ace Jordan Yamamoto, who threw 108 pitches in his win against Waiakea, he might be used in a spot situation.

"He's telling me he's ready already," Gusman said of Yamamoto. "I have to think what's best for the kid. Something like what (Campbell) did with Kahaloa."

Jordan Mopas' two out, two-run double fly ball double to left off the glove of diving left fielder Keola Himan in the top of the seventh inning off Campbell relief pitcher Ian Kahaloa broke a 1-all game.

Oshiro, who did not make many outings this season, was simply superb in a pitching duel with Campbell left-hander Dorrien Villanueva-Hermosura. Oshiro allowed a run and three walks and struck out five, using 95 pitches in the process.

"Peyton was awesome tonight," Gusman said. "He's come a long way as a pitcher. I'm so proud of him, so happy for him."

Oshiro was happy to draw the assignment.

"I was stoked," Oshiro said. "I just knew I had eight other guys on the field to back me up."

Oshiro made only this third start of the season with four relief outings. He started showing effectiveness toward the end of the season, including some scrimmages against other schools.

"Frankly, he just struggled throwing strikes," Gusman said of Oshiro. "He didn't have a breaking ball. Finally, I just told him he needed to work on just throwing it and he would do it every single day. When you get in the ILH, you can't be taking chances. We had Yamamoto, Pono, Yamamoto, Pono. When he got (an opportunity), he opened our eyes."

"We all believed in him and he pulled through," Yamamoto said.

Villanueva-Hermosura was holding on to a 1-0 lead through five innings before the Crusaders tied the game in the sixth. He allowed a run, five hits and a walk with four strikeouts.

He gave way to Kahaloa after the Saint Louis tied the game on Ryder Kuhns' sacrifice fly followed by a single from Jordan Yamamoto. Kahaloa came in and struck out Devan Stubblefield with runners at the corners to douse the threat.

But in the seventh, Brendan Uchima led off with a ground single to center off Kahaloa. He was lifted for pinch runner Brett Uchima, who took second when Tanner Atiburcio grounded on to shortstop Jobe Ibana, who made a backhand stop with no chance for the force at second. With Taylor Meilleur at the plate, Brett Uchima took third on a wild pitch. Kahaloa struck out Meilleur, but walked Rayson Romero on a nine-pitch plate appearance. That brought Mopas to the plate, who pulled a 2-2 pitch to left. Himan, who had been playing straight away, had to move to the line and the ball just glanced off his glove for the two-run double. Kahaloa came back to strike out Jacob Gribbin but the damage was done.

"Like every ball player, I was looking for a fastball," Mopas said. "He threw a hard slider, I just had by bat to the ball and made contact."

Campbell took a 1-0 lead off Oshiro in the third inning. Jake Mendoza walked with one out, took second on Zachary Recolan's sacrifice and scored on Jobe Ibana's line single to center. Ibana was caught leaning the wrong way and was caught stealing to end the inning.

The Sabers gambled in the sixth when they had runners at first and second with one out. Villanueva-Hermosura grounded out to second, but Dewayne Sprinkel, the runner on second, tried to score, but was gunned down on first baseman Mopas' throw to catcher Meilleur to end the inning.

"Both Pono and Peyton kept us off-balanced," Campbell coach Rory Pico said. "We didn't get good swing against them all night. It was a tribute to them, they had a good plan against us. We didn't make our adjustments on time."
