ScoringLive's All-Hawaii Division I Boys Basketball First Team features players from both state finalists and players of the year from three different leagues. Heading the selections is Maryknoll's Josh Burnett, our Player of the Year. Burnett's athleticism, soft-shooting touch and knack for making big plays put him at the top of our list of players for the 2013-14 season. Joining Burnett on the First Team are Maryknoll teammate Kaleb Gilmore, Farrington's Jacob McEnroe, Hilo's Jalen Carvalho and Iolani's Ikaika Phillip.

Burnett, a 6-foot-4 senior forward, was the leading scorer on Oahu this season and among the top statewide, averaging 21.5 points per game. He scored at least 11 points in every game this year and eclipsed the 20-point plateau in all but seven of Maryknoll's 25 games. He shot 47.6 percent from the field, 30.8 percent on 3-pointers and 71.3 percent on free throws for the season. Burnett averaged an ILH-best 19.8 points per game and helped the Spartans win the the league's regular-season championship. They reached the state tournament for the second consecutive year and finished third after a runner-up finish in 2013. Burnett saved his best for last, scoring a season-high 38 points to go with 18 rebounds in his final prep game, a 73-63 win over Campbell in the D1 state third-place game. He averaged 27 points in four state-tournament games and was named to the All-Tournament Team.

Gilmore, a 5-foot-10 junior guard, teamed with Burnett to account for nearly 68 percent of Maryknoll's scoring this season. Gilmore averaged 18.9 points per game for the season and 18.2 points in the ILH. He also scored in double digits in every game he played this season, going for a season-high 30 points in a 69-60 win over Iolani back on Jan. 11. In a stretch of three postseason games, Gilmore scored 74 points despite an in-game collision in a state quarterfinal win over Baldwin. He scored 23 points, including a 15-of-16 performance from the free-throw line, in the ILH championship game and followed that up with 25 points and 26 points on back-to-back nights in wins over Moanalua and Baldwin. For the season, Gilmore shot 45.2 percent from the field, 37.8 percent on 3-pointers and 71.7 percent from the free-throw line. He was also named to the All-Tournament Team at states.

McEnroe, a 6-foot-3 senior forward, was the straw that stirs the drink for Farrington this season. He averaged 15.5 points per game — the third-best mark in the OIA Red — and seven rebounds per game to lead the Govs, who ranked second in the league with a 65.2 points per game scoring average. McEnroe, who was also an All-Hawaii Division I Football First Team selection as a cornerback, scored a season-high 28 points against Kaimuki and a week later poured in 27 against Kalani. McEnroe shot 50 precent from the field and 48 percent on 3-pointers for the season. Farrington won its fourth OIA championship in school history this season and made a magical run to the state title game, before falling to eventual-champion Iolani, 43-40. McEnroe, averaged 15.7 points in three state-tournament games and was named to the All-Tournament Team.

Phillip, a 6-foot-1 senior wing, was the fifth leading scorer in the ILH this season at 14.3 points per game and for the season managed 12.7 points per game. He was not the prolific scorer that Burnett or Gilmore were for Maryknoll, but quite simply, Phillip was the best player on the best team this year. He provided much more than scoring for the Raiders, who won their 10th state championship in school history and first since 2010. Phillip scored a team-high 15 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead Iolani past Farrington in the title game. His season-high scoring output of 23 points came in the penultimate game of his prep career, a state semifinal win over Campbell. In a two week-stretch leading up to the state tournament, Phillip scored 76 points in back-to-back wins over both Punahou and Maryknoll to win the ILH title. Phillip was named the Most Outstanding Player of the state tournament.

Carvalho, a 6-foot-3 senior guard, led the state in scoring with a 28.9-points per game average. He scored 30 or more points in three BIIF games, including 35 points against Kohala. In that game, he shot 10 of 19 from the field and 13 of 14 from the free-throw line to go with 11 rebounds, six assists and three steals. He had a regular-season high 36 points against Kealakehe in the last game of the league season. Against Honokaa, Carvalho went for 31 points, 14 rebounds and six assists. Back in the preseason, he had an incredible 47-point outburst in a game against cross-town rival Waiakea. For the year, Carvalho shot 44.1 percent on field goals, 40.4 percent on 3-pointers and 81.4 percent on free throws. He also led the Vikings with 8.8 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game. Last week Carvalho was named the BIIF's Division I Player of the Year in a vote of league coaches.

Iolani coach Dean Shimamoto, who captured his second Division I state championship in his five-year tenure this season, was selected as Coach of the Year. The Raiders were chasing Maryknoll and Punahou in the ILH standings for most of the regular season before catching fire and making an unlikely run to the state title.

The Second Team is comprised of King Kekaulike senior guard Chase Iwata-Bartelme, Moanalua senior guard Jamaal Willis, Baldwin senior forward Teva Eldridge, Kalaheo junior forward Kupaa Harrison and Punahou senior forward/center Daniel Andrews.
