MILILANI — More than a month off since their last football game did little to slow down Noah Brum and Devan Stubblefield.

The pair combined on two touchdown passes to lead the East team to a 20-7 win over the West in the 23rd Annual Hawaiian Union Builders Foundation Goodwill Senior Bowl Friday night. A crowd of about 1,200 fans at Mililani's John Kauinana Stadium saw the East take a 20-0 lead by halftime then hang on to top the West squad.

The game was the culmination of the prep football season and pitted 50 seniors on each squad from both the Interscholastic League of Honolulu and the Oahu Interscholastic Association. The East was made up of players from Iolani, Pac-Five, Saint Francis and Saint Louis of the ILH and the OIA Eastern Division schools, while the West was comprised of players from Damien, Kamehameha and Punahou and the Western Division schools from the OIA. Every Oahu high school that participated in varsity football was represented by at least one player in the game.

"This is just great fun," said Brum, a quarterback from Kalani. "It was serious at some points, but a lot of it was just everybody getting together and having a great time with each other. It was a good game, but it was fun."

Brum threw for 119 yards on 5-of-6 passing with three touchdowns. He threw scoring strikes of 62 and 7 yards to Stubblefield, of Saint Louis, and a 29-yarder to Matt Bishop, of Kailua.

"I feel really blessed and I'm just so happy that I was able to represent my school in this way and get Kalani a good reputation,' said Brum, who passed for 2,797 yards with 38 touchdowns against nine interceptions this season. "Hopefully this helps to excel them and I'm pretty excited about next year's team."

Stubblefield, who caught four passes for 87 yards in the game, was named Offensive Most Valuable Player for the East.

"Both teams out here are the best of the best in the state," said Stubblefield, who has verbally committed to the University of Hawaii. "They have their stars and we have our stars and we went out here and took care of what had to be done."

The East scored on their second offensive possession on a quick strike. Brum hit Stubblefield on a deep pass along the right sideline for a 62-yard touchdown. The PAT was blocked and the East held a 6-0 lead with seven minutes and six seconds left in the first quarter.

Midway through the second quarter, the same duo hooked up again — this time on a 7-yard touchdown pass on a fade pattern to the right corner of the end zone. Castle's Ikaika Urasaki kicked the extra point to put the East up 13-0 with 6:43 left in the first half.

"We saw the coverage on the first touchdown and we were like 'hey, let's go make a play,' so I told him to throw it deep and sure enough he threw it deep and we made a play," Stubblefield said.

Late in the third quarter, Brum hit Bishop for a 29-yard touchdown pass along the right sideline. The Urasaki PAT gave the East a 20-0 advantage.

Minutes into the fourth quarter, the West finally got on the board when Campbell's Isaac Hurd found Mililani's Bronson Ader for a 60-yard touchdown pass. Aiea's Jae Won Huh made the PAT to close out the scoring.

Farrington's Motu Heimuli was named East's Defensive MVP, while Kalaheo's Makena Johnston was named Special Teams' MVP.

"It's an honor to coach this game and I just want to say thank you to the HUB Foundation, they do a great job to give the kids another event," said Moanalua's Arnold Martinez, who was the East head coach. "It's a blessing to see them have fun and to get out there. It's great, of course, to get a win because there's great coaches on that side and great players on both sides. The best thing was to see the kids build some camaraderie and have some fun."

Hurd claimed the West's MVP on offense, Mililani's KK Padello took the defensive honor and Huh was the special teams MVP.

The East has now won 11 times, while the West has won 10 games. There have been two ties.
