Scott M. Wagner, a New England athletic director, has been named to succeed Jo Ito as athletic director of Mid-Pacific Institute. Ito, who served five years and oversaw eight state championships in Divisions I and II, is moving to Germany to take a job as Activities Director at the Frankfurt International School  (FIS), one of Europe's largest international schools.
 
Wagner is a Wisconsin native and was chosen from a field of 80 applicants. He has worked the last seven years as athletic director of The Williams School in New London, Conn., a co-ed independent high school on the campus of Connecticut College. Wagner oversaw 15 teams.
 
He was also athletic director at Alexandria Country Day School in Alexandria Va from 2003 to 2006 and athletic director at Milwaukee Jewish Day from 1998 to 2002.
 
Wagner has a Masters Degree in Teaching and Education from Springfield College, the birthplace of basketball.
 
"His passion for coaching and the life lessons that can be learned through sports make him a great match for MPI," said Mid-Pacific's high school principal, Thomas McManus. "During our conversations and his visit, it is clear that Scott 'gets it.' He knows the proud tradition of MPI athletics and is eager to lead us into the next exciting phase of our growth."

Ito's last state title as A.D. came Tuesday when the Owls defeated Mililani for the state Division I baseball championship.
