Hawaii Baptist Academy swept past the Spartans of Seabury Hall on Saturday night to claim the New City Nissan Division II Boys Volleyball State Championship.

The win capped an undefeated season for the Eagles won also claimed their second consecutive state title.

"Just an exciting feeling," said Hawaii Baptist Academy coach Teoni Obrey. "Real proud of them. Real proud of the seniors and the leaders," he continued.

Both teams started off slow in the beginning of the game, with Seabury scoring the first initial point. The lead changed four times in the first set, but HBA would eventually seize control and win first set 25-19.

"Playing Seabury... there is a little bit of a rivalry and competition," said Obrey. "We were expecting a long five set battle," he continued.

During the second set, Hawaii Baptist Academy dominated. The Eagles, led by senior Chad Barretta and junior Michael Fisher, took control and ended the set swiftly with a score of 25-14.

"We did a good job," said Barretta. "Not one of my best games, but we came up pretty decent."

Although not one of Barretta's top performances, the 6-foot-4-inch senior came up big for the Eagles tonight. With 14 kills, two digs and 2 blocks, the senior proved to be vital in the win against Seabury. Barretta also has two other state titles under his belt, including the state championship Hawaii Baptist Academy won last year.

"He's been coming up huge for us for four years," said Obrey. "Real happy to send the senior off with a championship," he continued.

Seabury, trying to avoid the sweep, came alive during the third set. But despite their efforts, Hawaii Baptist Academy proved to be too strong for the Spartans, winning the match 25-22.

"(Hawaii Baptist Academy is) a great team," said Seabury coach Caleb Palmer. "In all aspects offensively and defensively, they did a good job."

"I expected the Spartans to be a really good team," said Fisher. "I wanted to get it done quick; didn't want to give them a chance to get hot."

The towering Fisher racked up three aces, 38 kills, six digs and two blocks with the win against Seabury tonight.

"I owe it all to my teammates," said Fisher. "It's not a one player sport. Without them, I couldn't have done anything."
