Matt Martinson steps down as head coach at Punahou

Matt Martinson, head coach for girls' varsity soccer, has decided to step down in order to devote more time to his family and to teaching, according to a press released issue by Punahou School today.

Martinson led the Buffanblu to three state soccer titles in his four-year tenure, most recently in 2011.

"I have loved coaching the student-athletes and being able to build on Punahou's tradition of excellence," said Martinson, who also teaches high school PE at Punahou School. "While I will miss coaching, the time is right for me to focus on teaching and family."

"Matt set an extremely high standard on the field and in the classroom," said Punahou Athletic Director Jeaney Garcia. "We are grateful for his dedication, commitment and exemplary coaching."
