In opening round action at the New City Nissan/HHSAA Girls Volleyball Division II State Championships, St. Francis defeated Ka'u, 25-12, 25-18, 25-13 to advance to a quarterfinal match against the Molokai Farmers tomorrow.

The Saints were led by Harlee Meyers, who had 9 kills, 7 digs and 2 aces. Tyler Mau added 9 kills and 2 blocks and Angel Savea 6 kills and an ace.

Jaeneise Cuison led the Trojans with 7 kills, 5 digs and an ace.

Ka'u will face Honoka'a in a consolation match at 3:30p tomorrow at Kalani.
