Amisone’s 7 TD night leads No. 6 Kapolei past Moanalua

Liatama Amisone went off for seven total touchdowns to lead No. 6 Kapolei past Moanalua, 68-33, in the opening round of the OIA Open Division playoffs at Alvin Nagasaki Sports Complex.

The Hurricanes (8-2 overall, 6-1 OIA) advance to face top seed Kahuku (9-1 overall, 6-0 OIA) in the semifinals. The Red Raiders beat the Hurricanes in the playoffs last year, 44-7.

The junior quarterback accounted for 522 of Kapolei's 686 yards of total offense. He threw for 333 yards on 14-of-19 passing for four touchdowns and rushed for 189 yards on 14 attempts for three touchdowns before leaving the third quarter.

Amisone accounted for all four touchdowns in the first quarter. He rushed for touchdowns of 50, 4, and 47 yards and threw a 75-yard touchdown to Kaina Kamohalii for a 28-0 lead.

Niko Armstead-Lehti hauled in a 89-yard touchdown pass from Tayden Evan Kaawa 14 seconds to go in the first quarter.

Amisone went to the air for three touchdowns in the second quarter. He threw a 33-yard touchdown pass to Reeno Two and touchdown passes of 28 and 59 yards to Kamohalii, who had seven catches for 213 yards in the first half and finished with eight receptions for 216 yards.

Kaawa kept pace with a pair of touchdown passes in the second quarter. He threw a 20-yard touchdown pass to Kama Corales and Jayce Bareng caught a 38-yard score.

The Hurricanes led, 47-20 at halftime and had 494 yards of total offense in the first half. Kapolei rolled up 330 net rushing yards and 356 net yards passing for the game.

Kapolei got a pair of scores in the third quarter on the ground. Chase Camarillo scored on a 7-yard run and Vaimetua Kamakele punched in a 1-yard run.

Kekoa Koong came in relief for Amisone in the third quarter. He threw a 5-yard touchdown pass to Camarillo in the fourth quarter.

Armstead-Lehti reeled in a 75-yard touchdown pass from Kaawa in the third quarter and Kaawa lofted a 11-yard touchdown pass to Lucas Filisi late in the fourth.

Kaawa threw for a season-high 375 yards on 16-of-34 passing, five touchdowns and was picked off once. Armstead-Lehti's two catches went for 164 yards.

Kaikoa Iokia led Kapolei's defense with six total tackles and a sack and Hezekiah Fruean intercepted two passes.

Josiah Kahue-Antone led all defenders with 10 total tackles and Marcelle Pleasant forced and recovered a fumble for Na Menehune's defense.

Na Menehune end their season at 1-7-1 overall and finished 1-5-1 in the OIA.

Kapolei beat Moanalua, 33-21 on Sept. 5, 2016.
