Punahou shuts out Maryknoll for third straight win

*NOTE* This game was originally played on March 16 but was put under protest. It was initally scored a 6-0 Buffanblu-win, but one of their players leaped the Spartans catcher illegally to reach home plate in a four-run seventh inning. Maryknoll coach Eric Kadooka's protest was upheld by the Interscholastic League of Honolulu.

While reverting back to the top of the seventh with Punahou leading 2-0, the game continued play April 4 with the Buffanblu officially winning, 4-0

ALA WAI—  Punahou shut out Maryknoll, 6-0 for its third straight Interscholastic League of Honolulu Division I win at Ala Wai Field on Thursday.

The Buffanblu (6-2) tighten up the ILH D1 race as they are tied with Saint Louis also 6-2 for second place in the standings. The Spartans (1-7) dropped their fifth-straight game.


Matthew Nakamoto went 3-for-3 and drove in two RBIs and Cole Cabrera also drove in a pair of runs.

The game was scoreless after four complete innings until Punahou took a 2-0 lead after the fifth inning. The Buffanblu added four more runs in the top of the seventh.

Kyle Uemura pitched six innings and allowed four hits while striking out three in the win. Drayden Yamaguchi pitched 4 1/3 innings, allowed two hits, one run—none earned and walked two in the loss.

Punahou plays Iolani on March 18, Kamehameha on March 21 and Iolani March 23 again for their next three games. Maryknoll plays Mid-Pacific, Iolani and Mid-Pacific, again on those same dates.
