Mid-Pacific lights up Kalani, 62-34

Brilie Kovaloff tallied 28 points, four rebounds and an assist to carry top-seeded Mid-Pacific past Kalani, 62-34, in a Snapple/HHSAA Division II Girls Basketball State Championships semifinal game at Kalani's Earl C. Homer Gym Friday night.

The Interscholastic League of Honolulu-champion Owls (13-0) continued their hot streak against the Falcons, shooting 47.6 percent from the field while holding the opposition to 26.7 percent.

Kovaloff scored the first 11 points of the game for Mid-Pacific and finished the half with 17 where her team held a 35-20 lead.

The Owls came out of the half dominant, keeping Kalani scoreless in the third quarter and pushing their lead to 53-20 going into the final stanza.

Ciera Kameehonua added 12 points for Mid-Pacific, which will face Kamehameha Schools Hawaii in the Division II Girls Basketball State championship game at 5 p.m. Saturday at the Neil S. Blaisdell Center.

Heidi Kishaba led Kalani scorers with seven points to go along with three rebounds.

The Falcons will play Saint Francis at 3 p.m. Saturday for third place.
