KAPALAMA HEIGHTS — No. 4 Maryknoll overcame a scoreless third quarter, but made it up with a strong fourth quarter rally to beat No. 7 Kamehameha, 42-41 in an Interscholastic League of Honolulu game at Kekuhaupio Gymnasium on Wednesday night.

Maryknoll (6-1) extends its win streak to four and hopes to avenge their only loss against Punahou (7-1) this Friday for their last regular season home game. The Spartans finish the regular season on the road at Saint Louis (1-6) and Iolani. 

Kamehameha (2-6) loses another one-basket heartbreaker and travels to Mid-Pacific (1-6) and hosts Iolani (5-2) to close the regular season.

With under a minute left of regulation, Kamehameha sent Maryknoll to the line. Jaylen Cain, Riden Leong, Kaulana Schmidt and Payton Grant helped the Spartans make 6-of-8 free throws. Christmas Togiai hit a 3-pointer before the buzzer, but the game was determined by then.

Cain scored 13 of his 15 points in the first half and hit a 3-pointer before the buzzer to give Maryknoll an 28-23 lead.

The Warriors started the third quarter on a 7-0 run led by Kobe Young, who scored eight of Kamehameha's 10 points in the quarter. He finished with 14 points for the game and Kamren Victorino-Kato added 12.

The Spartans went scoreless and didn't hit their first field goal of the second half until the 5:10 mark in the fourth quarter after Makoto Kamata's basket. The Spartans slowly chipped away and Isiah Gelacio, who finished with 11 points, hit a 3-pointer to reclaim the lead for Maryknoll, 36-35 and from there the team got it done at the free throw line.
