No. 3 Saint Louis stifles No. 10 Iolani, 33-0
Saint Louis RB Dylan Silva scored two total touchdowns in the Crusaders' shutout win. John Lujan | SLHALAWA — Two of Saint Louis' three interceptions were returned for touchdowns to help the third-ranked Crusaders beat No. 10 Iolani, 33-0 in the first game of the Interscholastic League of Honolulu Division I second round at HTFCU Field at Aloha Stadium on Friday night.
The Crusaders (7-1 overall, 6-1 league), who won the card draw for the top seed, march on to the second round final to meet Punahou for the third time to determine the ILH title on Friday, Oct. 21. Both teams clinch spots in the First Hawaiian Bank/HHSAA Open Division Football Championships.
The Raiders (3-7 overall, 0-7 league) have not been eliminated, but are assured the ILH's lone berth to the First Hawaiian Bank/HHSAA Division I Football State Championships in November.
Jarin Yokogawa started at quarterback and finished 10 of 20 for 81 passing yards and three interceptions in the first half. Sophomore quarterback Jacob Hinderleider played the entire second half. Tai-John Mizutani did not play.
Jalen Saole had the first interception on Iolani's opening drive. Noa Purcell's interception returned for 85 yards gave the Crusaders their first points. Following a Raiders' punt, Ronson Young added a 1-yard TD run to cap a drive that covered 74 yards on 11 plays.
Kama Moore's pick-six for 70 yards gave Saint Louis a 19-0 lead.
Isaac Slade-Matautia's sack and forced fumble recovered by Nathaniel Guyette set up Tagovailoa's shovel pass to Dylan Silva for 10 yards to put the Crusaders up, 26-0 going into halftime.
Tua Tagovailoa came out early in the third quarter to finish the game 10 of 17 for 113 yards and an interception.
Silva rushed for a team-high 64 yards and added a 1-yard TD run with 9:06 left in the third.
Isaac Anderson rushed for 86 yards on 20 attempts, but was stuffed at the goal line late in the fourth quarter. Kyler Mento had an interception and Cameron Chang had a tackle for loss for Iolani.
