HALAWA— Tua Tagovailoa threw for 260 yards and two scores and rushed for another all in the first half to help No. 2 Saint Louis (2-0 overall, 1-0 ILH) overwhelm No. 9 Iolani (3-1 overall, 0-1 ILH), 49-7 in an Interscholastic League of Honolulu Division I opener for both teams at Aloha Stadium on Friday night.

Saint Louis got 436 yards of total offense and averaged 5.3 yards per rush. Tagovailoa was 11 of 17 for 173 yards and two touchdowns in the first quarter and found eight different receivers. He finished the night with over 5 minutes in the second quarter with 260 yards on 17-of-26 passing.

"Our slots and receivers did good. We had dropped balls here and there, we should have no excuses rain or not," said Tagovailoa. "We got guys from first string to the second string and praise God we have that depth and advantage."

Iolani opened the game with a quick three-and-out, Tagovailoa found Leelan Oasay for 7 yards for the first score in a six play drive that covered 45 yards.

Jahred Silofau rushed for 28 yards and added a pair of rushing touchdowns from 2 and 6 yards to make it, 21-0.

"Finding balance with the run game was very key. It was good for us especially our o-line to work on our run game," said Tagovailoa.

Tagovailoa threw a 58-yard score—his longest pass of the night to Jaymason Nunuha with 2:48 left in the first quarter. Saint Louis could've added more points to the board after Rick Sandry intercepted Mizutani's pass and returned it to the Raiders' 6. However, Austin Tuisano coughed up the football and Kyler Mento recovered it for Iolani.

Tagovailoa rushed for 77 yards on seven attempts and ran it in for a 19 yard score to put the Crusaders up by 35. His replacement Chevan Cordeiro came in at the 5:17 mark in the second quarter and rushed for a 22-yard touchdown in the third.

Dylan Silva rushed for a 4-yard touchdown to give the Crusaders a 42-0 lead going into halftime.

Iolani had difficulties getting the offense going. Of their 12 offensive series for the game— seven resulted in punts, two were turnover on downs and one resulted in an interception.

"Couldn't have been done without the defense," said Tagovailoa.

Tai-John Mizutani was 19-of-38 and threw for 139 yards and was intercepted once. KJ Pacua was held to 29 yards on 11 carries and scored the Raiders' only touchdown 9 seconds into the fourth quarter.

Justin Genovia, who has 384 receiving yards and three touchdowns coming into this game was held to one catch for 0 yards. The Crusaders also did a great job containing the run, holding the Raiders to 18 net rushing yards, (1.1 yard per carry) for the night.

Saint Louis will take on No. 3 Punahou (2-0 overall, 1-0 ILH) in a highly-anticipated show down at Aloha Stadium on Friday, Sept. 9. Iolani will travel to Kamehameha (1-2 overall, 0-1 ILH) on Saturday, Sept. 10.

"We are still trying to work, especially our offense and defense starters. We have to keep our heads on and look forward to the next game," said Tagovailoa.
