King Kekaulike walks off against Kamehameha-Maui in extras, 4-3

WAILUKU, Maui — Stone Hashizaki scored on an error in the bottom of the 11th inning as King Kekaulike walked off with a 4-3 win over Kamehameha-Maui in a Maui Interscholastic League game at Iron Maehara Stadium Friday night.

Na Alii won their second straight game to improve to 3-7, while the Warriors fell to 3-7 with their second straight loss.

Kalae Masada batted 2 for 5 with a double and Jay Texeira threw eight scoreless innings of relief to get the win for King Kekaulike.

Ekolu Watanabe went 4 for 5 with a walk for Kamehameha-Maui. He was also the losing pitcher despite striking out eight batters and allowing just one (unearned) run on two hits in 5 2/3 innings of work.

The Warriors, who committed six errors squandered a three-run lead after four innings.

King Kekaulike got on the board in the bottom of the fifth on Joel Reeser's RBI double that scored Masada. Texeira and Koa Hashimoto both scored to tie it at 3 one inning later.

Hashizaki got on base in the 11th via a fielder's choice. He moved over to second on a fielder's choice by Masada and came around to score after a two-base throwing error by Watanabe with one out in the inning.

Hashizaki started the game on the mound and allowed three runs on three hits in three innings pitched. He walked four and struck out one before finishing the game at second base.

Freshman Cyrus Robson started the game for Kamehameha-Maui and allowed three runs on two hits in five innings of work before giving way to Watanabe.

King Kekaulike was hitless through the first four innings.

The teams will play again at 3:30 p.m. on Monday and 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday at Maehara Stadium.
