Kapaa overcomes injuries to beat Waimea, 28-7

Kapaa, ranked No. 3 in the ScoringLive/OC16 Division II Power Rankings, improved to 3-0 (3-1 overall) in Kauai Interscholastic Fderation play with a 28-7 victory over Waimea at Vidinha Stadium Saturday night.

Despite losing quarterback Rudy Agoot (knee) and backup Chaz Pacleb (ribs) to injury in the first half, the Warriors were able to band together to outscore the Menehune 22-7 in the second half.

“The best thing was that the whole team – in that time of adversity – found a way to win,” said Kapaa coach Phillip Rapozo.

Running backs Shain Davis and Elijah McCarthy-Gouveia spent time at quarterback with Agoot and Pacleb sidelined. The two combined for 122 yards rushing and three touchdowns. Davis also caught four passes for 25 yards.

Another key contributor in the run game was Kekoa Kaluahine-Cacal with eight carries for a season-high 94 yards and his first score of the year.

Defensively the Warriors recorded three interceptions in the contest. John Levinthol, Junard Mata and Bryce Dato each had an interception.

Kapaa will have a week off before taking on Kauai (1-3, 1-1 KIF) next Saturday.
