Waiakea's Medeiros signs for $2.5 million


All-Hawaii pitcher Kodi Medeiros, a recent graduate of Waiakea High, has signed with the Milwaukee Brewers for a $2.5 million bonus Saturday, the Milwaukee Journal Sentienal reported on its blog, as well as by KHON.

The MLB recomended slot for the 12th overall pick was at $2.8 million. KHON reported an an additional $240,000 to the $2.5 million for a college scholarship's value had he attended Pepperdine, where he signed to play baseball. The scholarship portion comes from a separate fund that does not count against the team's alloted signing bonus money.

The Brewers went over slot on their next two draft picks, Jaccb Gatewood (41st overall) and Monte Harrision (50th), both signing for $1.83 million and $1.8 million, respectively, the blog reported. Those slots were recommended at $1.38 million and $1.1 million.

Milwaukee's budget was slotted at $7.6 million by MLB. Based on the players signed reported by Baseball America's online website, the Breweres have less than $660,000 left to sign their remaining unsigned picks.
