The inaugural Geremy Robinson Senior Basketball Classic was held Sunday night before a crowd of about 350 fans at Moanalua.

The public-school team, coached by Mililani's Patrick Basilio, prevailed over the private-school team, which was coached by Punahou's Kevin Velasco. The final score was 59-51, although the scoreboard incorrectly indicated that it was 59-55. The private-school team, which was comprised of players from the Interscholastic League of Honolulu, picked up four dubious points early in the third quarter.

The scoring discrepancy didn't matter in the end, as the public-school team — made up of players from the Oahu Interscholastic Association — built a 16-point lead by early in the fourth quarter. Mililani center Sarah Liva led the public-school team with 16 points to go with 15 from Moanalua guard LaChae McColor and 14 from Farrington forward Penina Faumui. McColor, who drained four of her team's six 3-pointers, scored 11 of her points after halftime and was named Most Valuable Player of the game.

Kamehameha forward Alohi Robins-Hardy led all scorers with 17 points, including 11 in the second half.

The boys' game went the way of the private-school team, which won by a margin of 86-77 in an run-and-gun affair. The public-school team, coached by Farrington's Allan Silva, led 23-18 after the first quarter, but was outscored 49-31 over the next two quarters.

The private-school team, which was headed by Kamehameha's Greg Tacon, had five players score in double figures, led by Damien foward Jaylen Layco's 15-point effort. Punahou forward Daniel Andrews and Kamehameha forward Alakai Freitas each netted 12 points, Maryknoll forward Joshua Burnett added 11 and Kamehameha guard Noa Kinimaka chipped in 10. Layco was named Most Valuable Player of the game.

Mililani forward Elijah Butler and Moanalua guard Jamaal Willis led the public-school team with 12 points apiece. Farrington guard Van Hugo contributed 11 points and his fellow Governors teammates, Isaiah Visoria and Jacob McEnroe, added 10 apiece.

The teams combined for 15 3-pointers in the game, including four alone by Willis.

Kalani's Carly Kakuda and Kinimaka won the 3-point shooting contests, while Andrews took home the slam dunk contest trophy.
