Fourth-seed Kohala accelerates past Kauai, 71-56


Fourth-seed Kohala advanced to the semifinals of the Hawaiian Airlines/HHSAA Division II Boys Basketball State Championships with a 71-56 victory over Kauai at Kalani High School gymnasium.

Mikala Jordan led all scorers with 26 points, including three-pointers, and the Cowboys also got double-digit production from Kaelan Figueroa (15) and Ryan Carvalho (10).

Kohala led 26-22 at halftime, and used a 24-13 scoring advantage in the final quarter to put the game away.

Melvin Tingzon had 19 points for Kauai in the loss.

Next up for Kohala in the D2 semifinals is Kalani, a 54-31 winner over top-seed Saint Francis. Tip-off is set for 5:00 p.m., back at Kalani High School.
