Liva leads Mililani to 54-39 win over Radford

Sarah Liva led all scorers with 18 points and Mililani cruised to a 54-39 win over Radford in Friday's opening round of the Hawaiian Airlines/Hawaii High School Athletic Association Division I Girls Basketball State Championships at Moanalua.

Mikaela Limper added 12 points and Shantel Appleby contributed 10 more to lead the Trojans (13-1) past the Rams (9-7). Mililani, the runner-up from the Oahu Interscholastic Association, will travel to the Big Island Saturday for a 6 p.m. quarterfinal against No. 2-seed Konawaena at Kealakehe High School.

Liva, a 6-foot-2 senior center, was 8 of 14 from the free-throw line. Mililani led 18-8 after the first quarter and 29-19 at halftime. They held a 40-23 advantage after three quarters.

Radford, which finished sixth in the OIA, was paced by 16 points from Jasmine Moody and 12 by Courtney McCreary.

It was the second meeting of the teams this season. Mililani beat Radford 54-27 in a regular-season game back on Jan. 7.
