Jim On, Makekau lead Iolani past Pac-Five, 31-19


HALAWA — Austin Jim On completed 32 of 40 passes for 361 yards with three touchdowns to lead Iolani to a 31-19 win over Pac-Five in an Interscholastic League of Honolulu game at Hawaiian Airlines Field at Aloha Stadium Friday night.

The six-time defending Division II state champion Raiders, ranked third in the ScoringLive/OC16 Division II Power Rankings, amassed 509 yards of total offense to improve to 5-4 overall and 3-3 in the ILH. The Wolf Pack fell to 1-6 and 1-4.

Jim On completed his first nine passes of the game and was 23-of-27 passing by halftime. Wide receiver Keoni-Kordell Makekau caught 15 passes for 220 yards and two touchdowns from Jim On.

Austin Silva opened the scoring with a 5-yard touchdown run midway through the first quarter to give Pac-Five a 7-0 lead. Jim On found Makekau for a 41-yard touchdown pass less than two minutes later and Jordan Genovia tacked on the extra point to tie it after one quarter.

Makekau gave the Raiders a 10-7 lead with his 39-yard field goal in the second quarter, but Roycen Routt answered for the Wolf Pack with a 2-yard touchdown run with one minute and 21 seconds left in the second quarter.

Pac-Five led 13-10 at halftime.

Iolani took over the game in the second half with 21 straight points. Jim On found Chad Hanaoka on a 6-yard touchdown pass late in the third quarter to give his team a 17-13 lead. Early in the fourth quarter, Jim On and Makekau hooked up once again, this time for a 39-yard scoring strike, to extend the Raiders' lead to 24-13.

Tamatane Aga, who rushed for 145 yards on 25 carries, added an insurance touchdown with his 1-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter.

Routt caught a 13-yard touchdown pass from Anthony Canencia in the closing minutes of the game for the final Pac-Five score. Canencia finished 14-of-24 passing for 157 yards.
