Oda, Moanalua claim state boys golf titles


Moanalua's John Oda led after Day One and shot a second-round 71 to hold off Alex Chiarella of Seabury Hall to win the individual title at the David S. Ishii Foundation boys golf state championship at Wailua Golf Course on Kauai.

Oda finished the tournament with a 69-71-139.

Chiarella charged up the leaderboard by shooting a 4-under 68 to finish just three strokes behind Oda at 142. 'Iolani's Lorens Chan finished in third, carding a two day 143.

In the team standings, Moanalua overcame a four-stroke 'Iolani advantage after Day One to finish four strokes ahead of the Raiders in the final tally.
