Punahou bests Kamehameha, 8-7, to win state title


 

Brailey Hirose-Hulbert led the way with four goals, and the Buffanblu held off a late charge by Kamehameha to win the Stanford Carr Development/HHSAA Girls Water Polo State Championships.

Punahou led 3-2 after the first quarter on three goals by Hirose-Hulbert, and extended to an 8-4 advantage after three.

In the fourth quarter, Kamehameha closed the gap to 8-7 on scores by Brittney Garrigan at 5:05 and 4:27, and another by Kawena Bikle with 2:34 to play, but could not send the game to overtime.
