Konawaena girls ranked No. 13 in USA Today

Konawaena High School's girls basketball team is ranked No. 13 in USA Today's latest Super 25 -- believed to be the first time a Hawai'i team was included in the rankings by nation's largest newspaper (by circulation).

The Wildcats are coming off a championship run in the Fifth Annual 'Iolani Prep Classic which included impressive victories over Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas), Oregon City (Oregon) and then-No. 11 Brea Olinda (Brea, Calif.). Brea dropped to No. 15 in this week's Super 25.

Konawaena also climbed three spots to No. 43 in this week's ESPN Powerade Fab 50.

The Wildcats will face top-level competition again next week at the NIKE Tournament of Champions in Chandler, Ariz. starting Monday.

Until 2008, the Hawai'i girls basketball season was played in the spring, making it virtually impossible for a local team to crack into the winter national rankings.
