'EWA BEACH - Junior right-hander Winona Pauline tossed her second complete game in three days to help Kapolei beat Campbell, 4-1, Thursday to complete a two-game series sweep at the Sabers' field.

The win keeps the Hurricanes (7-1) in the O'ahu Interscholastic Association Red West lead. The Sabers (5-3), who entered the week in a three-way tie for first along with Wai'anae, dropped to third.

Pauline beat the Sabers, 2-1, Tuesday at Kapolei with a four-hitter. The only run she allowed was unearned. She followed that with another four-hitter. The only run she allowed was fourth-inning solo home run by Kawehi Kahana to break up the shutout and no-hitter. Pauline struck out seven and walked two.

"I told her from the beginning that she'd be our go-to (pitcher) when it gets down to postseason," Kapolei coach Tony Saffery said. "It's going toward that direction; we still have four games to go. Nona has a lot of toughness and tenacity."

Pauline put the lead-off batter on base three times, but twice left the runner stranded in scoring position.

"We all had to step up and do what we had to do," Pauline said. "They were state champions last year. For us to play them, it's like playing a state game. We go all-out all the time."

The Hurricanes backed Pauline by sending nine batters up in a three-run first inning against Sabers' starter Summer Palipti, a sophomore right-hander.

Mikela Manewa led off the game with a single to center, took second on a passed ball and went to third on Dorian Acierto's single to short. Acierto took second on the play when the throw back to the infield went to third. The runners advanced on a passed ball, giving Kapolei, 1-0 lead. Briana Tovio-Asato was hit by a pitch to put runners at the corners. After courtesy runner Stacia Mahoe stole second, Kacee Navarro's two-run single to left-center made it 3-0. The Hurricans would load the bases, but Palipit got out of the inning by stranding the runners.

"They're always right behind me," Pauline said of her teammates' run support. "We all come out, we all play our game."

The Hurricanes added to their lead in the second. Tovio-Asato was hit by a pitch with two out and went to third when Navarro reached on an error. Pauline aided her cause with an RBI single to make it 4-0.

Kahana's homer to center pulled Campbell to 4-1, but that was it. The Sabers would load the bases with two out in the fifth, but strand the runners. Kahana led off the sixth by reaching on an error, b ut courtesy runner Tishna Brun was caught stealing.

Manewa was the only Hurricane with more than one hit (2 for 4), while catcher Tovio-Asato was hit by pitch three times.

Kayce Konohiha had two of the Sabers' four hits. Aside from Kahana' s homer, Brandee Ho had Campbell's other hit, a fifth-inning single.
