St. John Bosco fends off DeMatha in Iolani Classic third place game

St. John Bosco (Bellflower, California) withstood a furious rally from DeMatha Catholic (Hyattsville, Maryland), 71-67 to clinch third place in the Iolani Classic.

Four of the Braves starters scored in double figures led by Kade Bonam's 20. Jack Turner added 16 with two 3-pointers, and went 6 for 7 from the free throw line. Elzie Harrington added 14 and Chris Komin added 11.

St. John Bosco led by as much as 13 in the fourth quarter following Bonam's 3-pointer.

Ace Meeks led the Stags with 19 points and got DeMatha within six. After Bonam made a pair of free throws, Meeks drilled another 3-pointer. Bonam and Turner combined to shoot 4 for 4 from the free throw line to go up 10.

Jacob Wallace hit his foul shots and Meeks hit a 3-pointer as he was fouled and his free throw cut the deficit down to four, 67-63. Wallace hit a shot to get the Stags within two.

Bonam and Turner combined to shoot 2 for 4 and Charles Thomas III's tip in got DeMatha within two with 2.7 seconds left, but Harrington sealed the game with his free throws.

Kade Sebastian had four 3-pointers to finish with 14 before fouling out and Thomas III finished with 11 and Malcolm Thomas and Wallace each had eight in the loss.

Bosco hit 26 of their 35 free throw attempts and DeMatha converted 11 of their 16 attempts from the free throw line.
