Three players scored in double figures to lead Dr. Phillips (Orlando, Fla.) over Waiakea, 59-38, in the opening round of the 33rd annual Iolani Classic Saturday afternoon.
Daniel Love and Jordan Poventud each had 18 points and eight rebounds while Nick Smith chipped in 10 points to power the Panthers over the Warriors at Iolani's Lower Gymnasium.
The Panthers will play Oak Hill, who dispatched Kapolei 101-28, next Monday at 6:30 p.m. in the quarterfinals.
Wesley Amuimuia led Waiakea in the loss with 14 points on four made 3-pointers. The Warriors will play the Hurricanes in the first consolation game on Monday at 9 a.m.
