Hometown Baldwin to fend off OIA West

Hometown favorite Baldwin's win over Waipahu denied an all-Oahu Interscholastic Association Western Division semifinals of the Wally Yonamine Foundation Division I baseball tournament at Maui's Iron Maehara Stadium.

The Bears, second in the Hawaiian Electric Power Rankings, figure to be favorites the rest of the tournament having expended only one starting pitcher to date. The No. 2 seed did not play until Thursday's quarterfinals. The three others in the semifinals – all from the OIA West – will be using their third starting pitchers for the semifinals.

The four teams arrived here because of their pitching. It will interesting to see what they have left in day three.
