Punahou leads after first day at state golf championships


Punahou leads after the first day of play at the David Ishii Foundation Boys Golf State Championships held at the Kaanapali Golf Course on Maui.

The Buffanblu posted a total score of 279, 13 strokes better than second place Moanalua. Mid-Pacific (296), Baldwin (312) and Kamehameha (315) round out the top five teams.

PJ Samiere leads all individual golfers with a first round score of 65, three strokes better than Moanalua's John Oda and Mid-Pacific's Skye Inakoshi. Samiere's teammate Kalena Preus sits in fourth with a 69 and Moanalua's Brent Grant in fifth with a 70.
